Leslie Maclean, Accompanist

A native of Chicago, pianist, vocalist, arranger and composer, Leslie Maclean Pollock has been involved in music of every genre since the age of 13.  At 16, she served as musical director for L's Carousel Theater in Gurnee, Illinois.  Leslie also received the prestigious Presidential Award for incoming freshmen from Elmhurst Collge in Elmhurst, Illinois.  At 20, she won the American Music Award, granted to the single outstanding instrumental
soloist at the event from the Midwest Intercollegiate Jazz Festival.  Leslie was deemed “the best” by judging panelist Marian McPartland, who presented the award.
With her percussionist husband, Jerry, Leslie heads up the Leslie Maclean Trio.  The jazz trio has been featured at Jardine's and the Blue Room in Kansas City, the Jazz Bistro in St. Louis, at Dazzle in Denver and in several of the top jazz clubs in Chicago.  Their first CD, "That's Time Enough" has received excellent reviews from around the world, in addition to national and international airplay.  The trio is particularly popular in Japan.  It's rated 5 stars with comments such as: "If the music on this CD doesn't get you snapping your fingers and tapping your toes, have someone check your pulse, cause you must be dead!!! Words can not give justice to the the wonderfully entertaining "To Oz, To Oz" medley! This CD rocks!" Timothy J. Sullivan

Leslie holds a bachelor's of art degree from Lake Forest College and a Masters of music in piano performance from the Chicago Music College of Roosevelt University.  The Kansas City Women's Chorus has been proud and privileged to perform a number of Leslie's arrangement in our concerts.

Leslie opened for jazz legend Stan Kenton, and has appeared at many top Chicago jazz clubs and on television and radio. Leslie has also performed with guitarist Mundell Lowe and drummer Roy Burns. She cites as one of her main influences the music of the Big Bands, and enjoys bringing the ensemble-style articulations of the big
band sound into her playing and her arrangements. Her piano style also owes much to her background in classical music and displays a satisfying depth of touch and sensitivity to the piano keyboard. Leslie’s original tunes reflect her wide-ranging musical interests and run the gamut from straight-ahead swing and well-crafted ballads to driving Latin rhythms and jazz fusion.
